Gusty winds. Destructive snowstorms. Forceful hurricanes and tornadoes. Rushing flashflood. We have no option but to face these occurrences. Climate change is here to reside with us, unless we shape up and save Mother Earth. With its changeable weather, all of us should always be ready so that when nature shows its outrage, we are safe in our house.
That is why, we should prove our household often. ROOF is one of the most important part of the house. Since the time of primeval people, building roofs comes initial in order to provide them cover during day and night. They built like down-sloped so as to let the rains slide down. Though the equipments today have changed, tending roofs have been the custom in building roofs.
These days, roofs can be completed with tiles, fiber cement, asphalt, or cedar shakes. For a roof should be designed according to the climate in that part of the world. As the years pass by, it gets old and becomes brittle. Checking the state of our roofs often is really a must. This should be done in time before the expected days of such unkind weather condition.
How to do it? Let me give some essential information on how will you start it:
One should look for the damages or holes on our roofs. There is a roof drip especially if the ceiling is always soaked. Map out the source of that leak. Sometimes, the source is a little bit far.
Be ready with your woodwork tools like chisel, hammer, pry bar, replacement materials and galvanized roofing nails. Mop the area with wet rag and let it dry. Clean it well.
Flat roofs usually are made of roofing felt and tar. To repair this leaky kind of roof, slice the blister open, but shouldn’t get to the roofing with good condition. Or else you’ll have more work to do. Then, lift the cut blister. If there’s water in it, dry it up first. Next, scatter the coating cement on the roofing felt. Finally, close the blister with galvanized iron nails.
For shake roofs, split the shake by using a hammer and a chisel. Then, measure a new shake made from the old one and cut it. Next, put the new shake in place by nailing it with galvanized iron nails. Lastly, fasten it with a caulking compound.
For shingle roofs, lift the damaged shingles with a pry bar. Then slide the old shingle out. Next, place the new shingle aligned with the old one. Lastly, lift the corner of the shingle that extend beyond. Nail it with galvanized iron nails. Apply the coating cement to fasten it.
To have a nice stay at home, while there’s a bad weather outside, secure your own house by beginning with the ROOF.
